About

ABOUT ME

I specialise in effective knowledge transfer projects and endeavours in the work place and in education. I am in the business of increasing human ability.

Through my work as an Incorporated Engineer, a member of the Royal Aeronautical Society and a STEM Ambassador (Science, Technology, Engineering & Maths), my interest lies in conquering human error and developing competence in individuals and groups regardless of gender and societal, racial or religious background.
Competence is my watchword!

My background is in aviation, Defence engineering and teaching, having graduated with a first class BSc (Hons) in Aircraft Maintenance Engineering with further continuing professional development in risk management, project management, project controls and continuing airworthiness during my career in the Ministry of Defence, the Military Aviation Authority, Thomas Cook Airlines, educational institutions and the Middle East.

As a STEM communicator, I spend many volunteer hours mentoring individuals of all ages to help them with their career aspiration. I partake in activities with schools, colleges and/or other organisations such as judging at the Big Bang Fair North West in Liverpool, being a panellist for a Q&A session at the Manchester Science Festival or talking to secondary school girls about the merits of an engineering career.

In 2021, I founded STEMiteracy: a combined STEM and literacy educational initiative. I have a dedicated website for this initiative which has the mission of restoring true literacy as the building block of successful learning in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (and for that matter, any other subjects).

I have always been involved in the education and training sector by virtue of educating and home-schooling my own children and spending many years, and thousands of volunteer hours, helping others to succeed in their studies. I have also lectured in aerospace engineering in college, and taught in secondary schools. I am a consummate advocate of education for all as a fundamental right according to the United Nations’ Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

In 2016, I was shortlisted in the Special Award category for the inaugural UK Women in Defence Awards 2016.  More recently, I am referenced to as a female role model in “Women in STEM Disciplines -The Y factor 2016 Global Report on Gender in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics” by C Shmuck, Springer Publishing, Switzerland.
